Jeremy Clarkson Returns to Motoring TV After Announcing Retirement

Jeremy Clarkson is making a brief return to the motoring genre in an upcoming episode of Car SOS, despite stepping away from car shows after The Grand Tour’s final episode aired in September 2024.

The 64-year-old former Top Gear host had shifted his focus to his Diddly Squat farm—featured in Amazon’s hit series Clarkson’s Farm—alongside his brewery business, Hawkstone, and his newly opened Oxfordshire pub, The Farmer’s Dog.

Clarkson’s Special Appearance on Car SOS

Clarkson will join Car SOS hosts Tim Shaw and Fuzz Townshend for a special episode in which he helps restore an old Land Rover Discovery Series 1.

In a recent interview, Shaw shared that Clarkson graciously allowed the crew to film the final reveal of the restored vehicle at his home.

“Jeremy was happy for us to bring a full coach load of people. Think about it—60 strangers turning up at your property!” Shaw told The Daily Star.

He added: “We spent about half an hour with Jeremy, and he was warm, friendly, and, of course, typically sarcastic and funny. He genuinely cared about the team and, most importantly, the car’s owner.”

Clarkson bid farewell to The Grand Tour after its final special, in which he, James May, and Richard Hammond drove their dream cars.

Co-host James May later explained the decision to end the show, stating:

“The idea was to land the car show format safely and not fly it into a cliff. We only cleared the cliff by a few feet, but I think it will survive.”

May also noted he wasn’t mourning the show’s end, believing they had “given the format a really good thrashing, and now it’s time to let a younger generation have a go.”

Clarkson’s Current and Future Projects

While stepping away from motoring shows, Clarkson continues to host Clarkson’s Farm, which documents his life managing a 1,000-acre farm near Chipping Norton, as well as Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? on ITV.

In November, Clarkson confirmed via Instagram that Clarkson’s Farm had been renewed for a fifth season, with the fourth set to be released soon.
