Surprise New Galaxy S25 Feature Will Change Samsung Phones Forever

Samsung has been looking for ways to make its in-house AI, Bixby, relevant again. With the launch of the Galaxy S25, it seems they have found the answer.

At a recent Samsung event in London, executives showcased the company’s new approach to AI assistants. The major revelation was that Gemini has effectively replaced Bixby as the default AI on Galaxy phones, even taking over the quick-launch home button.

However, Bixby hasn’t been completely sidelined. According to Samsung executives, the revamped Bixby is now focused on navigating Samsung phones through natural language commands. Lee Dinham, a mobile experience product specialist at Samsung, stated, “Anything that can be done by touch can be done [with your voice] by Bixby.”

While a live demo was not available, Samsung claims that users will be able to change or find any settings on the Galaxy S25 with voice commands. The full extent of Bixby’s capabilities remains unclear, especially when it comes to tasks like photo editing.

If Bixby truly enables seamless navigation and execution of commands on Galaxy phones, it could provide Samsung with a significant edge over competitors like Apple and Google. Imagine asking Bixby to edit pictures, share media across apps, multitask on foldable screens, or manage app installations — all through voice commands.

Solving Samsung’s Longstanding Feature Discovery Issue

Samsung Galaxy phones are packed with features, but many users are unaware of their full potential. Features such as audio isolation in videos, speech enhancement on calls, and dynamic wallpapers often go unnoticed. The challenge has been helping users discover and utilize these capabilities.

If Bixby can guide users through these features with ease, it could address the issue of feature overload. This problem has persisted for years, as highlighted in previous discussions about Samsung’s evolving AI capabilities. Samsung’s designers have seemingly been working to tackle this challenge.

Dinham confirmed that Google’s Gemini remains the primary assistant on Galaxy devices due to its advanced generative AI capabilities, while Bixby takes on a more specialized role.

Despite being a secondary announcement, Bixby’s return as a navigation assistant could significantly impact how users interact with their devices daily. The true test, however, will come with hands-on experience. As with many tech promises, the reality may differ, and a full evaluation will only be possible once the Galaxy S25 is put to the test.
