They let cousin cook in The Fantastic Four teaser trailer

Ebon Moss-Bachrach in a fictional, on-screen kitchen? That’s not an unusual sight for him—except this time he’s not playing everyone’s favorite cousin, Richie from The Bear. Instead, he’s stepping into the shoes (or, rather, the rocky, larger-than-life persona) of Ben Grimm, better known as The Thing. Perhaps the Fantastic Four teaser chose to introduce him in a “yes chef” moment so fans could easily recognize him under the guise of The Thing, or maybe it’s just a humorous image of an otherworldly being delicately tasting a sauce on the tip of his finger. Either way, it’s our first glimpse at this new iteration of the character as we gear up for The Fantastic Four: First Steps in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, set to debut on July 25.

Much like Spider-Man: Homecoming, which wisely skipped the familiar origin story for the web-slinger, this Fantastic Four teaser starts in medias res, when the team (or should we say, the family?) has already gained their powers. What’s exciting here is that we’re seeing a version of the MCU that’s unlike anything we’ve encountered before—a universe that feels not only distinct in time but also in essence. Instead of the iconic Avengers Tower, this New York City features the Baxter Building as the headquarters of our heroes. And rather than a world that mirrors our own, this one takes on a sleek, Jetsons-like vibe, with futuristic touches that evoke a sense of wonder and possibility.

In addition to our first look at Moss-Bachrach as The Thing, the teaser also introduces the new core members of the Fantastic Four. Pedro Pascal steps into the role of Reed Richards, a.k.a. Mr. Fantastic, Vanessa Kirby plays Sue Storm, a.k.a. Invisible Woman, and Joseph Quinn takes on the fiery Johnny Storm, a.k.a. Human Torch.

Marvel Studios has also given us a sneak peek at the film’s plot. The Fantastic Four faces their most daunting challenge yet, balancing their roles as heroes with the strength of their family bond. They must protect Earth from the ravenous space god, Galactus (Ralph Ineson), and his enigmatic Herald, Silver Surfer (Julia Garner). The stakes are high, as Galactus plans to devour the planet and everyone on it—but things take a personal turn, adding a layer of emotional depth to the already dire situation.

With this exciting new phase for the Fantastic Four and a fresh, visually distinct MCU universe to explore, fans have plenty to look forward to as the team takes their first steps into this brave new chapter.
